What was the point?

Ok. So it seems I missed the point of the Laker parade. I understand that the Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA Championships. I understand that it can be a reason to celebrate. But I don't understand the City of Los Angeles paying 1 million plus dollars for a parade for some millionares. I could understand better if the Lakers, sensing our depleting budget, donated to pay for the parade themselves. I could even understand Los Angeles wasn't already notorious for unruly and rowdy mobs of people. In the past 20 years, there have been two or three, maybe four, instances where the city had to spend gobs of money on police in riot gear. One of those past instances was the last Laker parade.

Not to be a traitor, but I noticed that most of the laker fans in the streets were black.
Yeah there were a BUNCH of hispanics and a few caucasians, but the majority were people of a dark color. Those same people who overturned cars on the Harbor Freeway the night the Lakers won. Those were the same people who were arrested for being too unruly not 2.5 hrs after the game.

So again. Why did the city of Los Angeles pay $1 millon for a parade for some millionares? Police. They had to pay for all of the police they were going to need. Oh, and if you didn't work near the parade, count yourself very blessed or very lucky, which ever you prefer.

Traffic was a nightmare. My bus #40 made a detour at Normandie and King. Some how I ended up at Vernon and Vermont. It took thirty minutes for the so-called fast bus to get to me. Thirty. Plenty of "slower" buses drove past me displaying "not in service". The bus stop got more and more crowded with people coming from the Coliseum. Finally the bus arrived and finally we go to King and Vermont. This what awaited us at the bus stop: http://twitpic.com/7nfcz This mass of people leaving the parade. This mass of people who rushed the bus and made those hardworking citizens and students late for their appointments. Granted I left the house at 1 pm, It still took me and hour and a half to get from Vernon and Vermont to Vermont and Santa Monica. That normal ride is 27 mins with no traffic and 35-39 with traffic.

Laker fans in all the Laker colors rushed the bus at everystop, not caring that the patrons on the bus were already packed in their like sardines. Fans already on the bus made it apparent that they had been drinking to much. Most were just loud, but a few actually got sick on the bus and hurled. GROSS, especially since were all packed in there so tightly. First body odor, then funky beer smell, then vomit. Yesterday sucked for most hard working people near downtown and the USC/Sports Arena area.

Yesterday...

What was the point again?
