I have lots of choreography rolling around in my head. This semester, I am fortunate enough to be allowed class time to teach it. Lord knows I have no extra time. All I need is for the students to do their part, slow me down if I'm teaching too fast and pay attention. It helps if students don't talk or be distracted while I'm trying to teach.
I think students who would like to become dancers should teach a class or a workshop. They should be very enthusiastic about what they are teaching. Then they will know what it is like when the professor is trying to call roll and 35 girls in shimmy belts are chatting and no one can hear her. Or when she is trying to teach you the difference between a three-quarter shimmy and a front-back shimmy, but there is jingling and chatter in the back ground.
So to my teachers (Karin, Elyssa, Valentina and Ms. Blackwell) I understand. I get it. I knew it then, but I really know it now.
So when you are in a dance class, SHUT UP! You're dancer instructor has a limited amount of time to show you how to NOT look crazy on stage and how NOT to hurt yourself when you are dancing. If you don't pay attention, you will regret it. Trust me.
Disclaimer: Failure to pay attention to an dance instructor can result in said instructor screaming, yelling, and/or to be irritated. It may also cause the distracted dancer to forget the counts, the movement, the direction or to hurt his/her self or someone else.
